In 2020 I went to Dastak Womens Shelter Home in Pakistan, where I interviewed and photographed women who made choices under dramatic circumstances to escape violence. I asked them about the dreams they had, before they made decisions, that would end up being life-changing. In the Islamic world dreams can have a prophetic meaning and be crucial to the choices you make in life. The women we met are not beaten down by life, on the contrary, they are strong and free. I look like a Pakistani, and I speak the language, and I felt a strong connection with the women at the shelter. They told me of vivid and intense dreams, dreams that I could relate to.
